Grandma Wood's and her 6th grade home room are so proud of classmate and friend, Alivia Willey. Alivia submitted her cheerleader video to Disney and got accepted to performing at Disney in Florida. Alivia is a prime example that with hard work and determination, dreams come true!

The second teacher that the NHS is recognizing for American Education Week is Mrs. Jen Gill. Mrs. Gill is one of South Shelby's many wonderful educators. She has served as a 4th grade teacher for 17 years. Some in the community have said, "Mrs. Gill is awesome at what she does. She is very knowledgeable, and her fun, down-to-earth personality helps her students enjoy their time with her." "Mrs. Gill always works hard and stays positive, even when life is tough. She makes learning fun, and her students want to be at school. She's also a great friend and is always willing to help inside of school and outside." While Mrs. Gill has overcome many struggles in her life, she continues to persevere and provide her students with the learning experience every child deserves. She will receive a $300 classroom grant made possible by local businesses that were posted earlier in the week and can be found in this week's edition of the Shelby County Herald.

To promote American Education Week, National Honor Society students took some time out of their busy schedules to read to the elementary classes. It is hard to tell who had more fun, the high school students or the little kids!

Tonight was NE District Fall Speaking in Monroe City. Lindsey Magruder took home 1st place in Farm Bureau! She will compete at State in December!! Peyson Larrick competed in Cattlemen’s. Lots was learned by both of these kids. They met people and built relationships, while also developing their public speaking skills. Proud of them both!!
