Senior Spotlight: Emma Wilt Emma Wilt, will be a 2023 graduate of South Shelby High School, is the daughter of Adam and Rebekah Wilt. She is the sister of Noah, Katelyn, and Josiah. Her favorite activity to do with her family are their canoing trips. Her favorite childhood memory was when she would attend fairs with her cousins and help her grandparents with their snow cone stand. Emma has been involved in our high school’s band all four years, playing trumpet for marching and pep band. I was part of the stage crew for the Shelby County Musical’s production of High School Musical in the Fall of 2022. She has been a member of the FFA since Freshman year. She was the Assistant Reporter for FFA in the 2020-2021 school year, the FFA Reporter in 2021-2022, and she is the current Chaplain for the 2022-2023 school year. In FFAshe has competed on the Conduct of Chapter Meetings Team(2020) and Floriculture Team(2022). Emma is also a member of the Shelbina Christian Church where she volunteers for the worship team and attend several Youth Group events throughout the year. The activity that Emma enjoys the most is marching band because we attended competitions where we placed well and many of our community members supported us. It is enjoyable to find ways to make Mr. McCoy laugh with other members throughout the season. Her favorite high school Memory is when she went to the National Convention Freshman year. The class that she enjoyed the most is LA 1 because Mrs. Wilcox encouraged us to do plays in class and it provided a fun atmosphere for learning. Outside of school she enjoys meeting new people, reading, attending youth group events, and spending time with my extended family. If Emma had one wish it would be to live by all of her family and friends so their kids could grow up together. After High School, Emma plans to attend East Central College for her Occupational Therapy Assistant degree. The person Emma admires the most is not applicable because she has had too many influential people enter her life to name. The teacher that had the most influence on Emma is Mr. McCoy because he has always pushed us to do our best wherever we perform. The one thing Emma will miss most about South Shelby High School is annoying Mr. McCoy with her band friends.

Senior Spotlight: Case Ratliff Case A. Ratliff, will be a 2023 graduate of South Shelby High School, is the son of Ben and Chris Ratliff. He is the brother of Morgan and Josie Ratliff My favorite activity to do with your family: Going out to eat and enjoying family time while eating good food. My favorite memory as a child would be cracking my head open. Although this memory is not a good memory, it is a memory that humbled me and made me know I was not invincible. I was a dangerous child and would love to go 100% all the time. This memory happened when my brother and I were wrestling and I was sitting on the back of the couch. I then was pushed off on the back and hit the corner of a coffee table. 4 year FFA Member- FFA President       (2022-2023) FFA Treasurer     (2021-2022) FFA Assistant Treasurer (2020-2021) 2 Year Environmental Club Member- Vice President of Recycling (2022-2023) 2 Year National Honor Society Member- Vice President     (2022-2023) Class of 2023- Vice President                 (2022-2023) 4 Year South Shelby Basketball- Team Captain     (2022-2023) 4 Year South Shelby Band/Marching Band/Pep Band Section Leader     (2022-2023) Section Leader     (2021-2022) 4 Year South Shelby Track 1 Year South Shelby Choir  3 Year Musical Actor -Community Activities- -Shelby County Farmer’s Day -Angel Tree Gifts -Shelby County Homecoming -Shelbina Food Pantry Volunteer -Shelby County Fair Volunteer and Exhibitor -Shelby County Old Threshers Tour Guide and Volunteer -St. Mary’s Catholic Church Volunteer The activity that I enjoy the most is basketball because basketball has always been my favorite sport even though I have not always been the best at it. I feel as if basketball is the best way for me to clear my mind and relieve some of the stress and problems that go on in my life. I also am very competitive and basketball shows off that competitiveness in me that I love. Basketball has also gave me a great opportunity of leadership that I think will be very important in my life. My favorite High School Memory is when I became the FFA President because it was my first opportunity at Leadership and I have always wanted to be the President of the FFA. The class that you enjoyed the most is Ag Woods because in Ag Woods you are able to use your creativity, hands on, which being hands on helps me learn a lot easier. You also get to put your creativity and skills into a wood project, which I think is a very fun way to do so. I have also had some very helpful and inspiring Ag teachers that have taught me very well. Although you have to put money into buying project, I still think everyone should give Ag Woods a try and see where your creativity takes you. Outside of school you enjoy playing basketball, going out with friends/family and playing/singing music. If I had 1 wish it would be to go back in time to tell my younger self not to stress so much and it will be alright. After High School, Case plans to attend State Technical College of Missouri to get his Associates Degree in Electrical Distribution Systems The 2 people I admire the most would be my parents and it is hard to pick one because both of my parents have played a big part in my life. They are both always there for me when I need them and always spoiling me, which I quite enjoy and thank them for. They have taught me many good character traits such as, never to give up, care for everyone, to always think positively and many more. My parents have also taught me a lot of skills that I will use in my life, which are too many to list.  I never go a day where I don’t need them so I am truly thankful for both of them. The teacher that had the most influence on me is Mr. Tim Larrick because he always came to school with a great attitude. Mr. Larrick would always have an answer to my questions and if he didn’t he would find it. Mr. Larrick taught me to always find the best in people and try new things. Although, I no longer have class with Mr. Larrick, his teachings and leadership skills will be with me forever. The one thing I will miss about SSHS is the friends and people around me that supported me through it all. SSHS has an amazing way of welcoming you and really feels like a family and I could not thank everyone enough. I will also miss being able to see all my friends on a regular basis so Thank You South Shelby High School for all the fond memories and support.
