8th grade LA learning about "sacrifice" as they decorate a cookie as beautiful as they can....then give it away. This lesson is in reference to the novel, A Famiky Apart, by Joan Lowery Nixon. A single Irish mother in New York who made the difficult decision to put her children on the Orphan Train to be adopted by a family in the west so they will have a better life. Sacrifice. Giving up something you love because it means it's for the best. Even though the pain is killing you. Sacrifice.
