Senior Spotlight: Joslynn Mefford Joslynn M. Mefford, will be a 2023 graduate of South Shelby High School, is the daughter of Matt and Tara Mefford. She is the sister of Jaycee and Janna Mefford. Her favorite activity to do with your family is attending Sunday dinner at her Nana and Grandads house each week and spending time with friends and family. As a kid, Joslynn went to her Aunt Peggy and Uncle Randy’s house for daycare. There she learned to ride her bike and made many other memories. Her favorite memory made there would be, playing school with both of them and pretending to be the teacher. (This was almost an every day occurrence.) Joslynn is involved in numerous organizations and holds many offices. She is the vice president and treasurer of FBLA, Treasurer of FFA, serves as the Vice President of fundraising and finances of the environmental club, the vice president of Student Council, and NHS. The activity that she enjoys the most is FFA because she likes to meet new people, explore many different opportunities, and much more. The FFA has taught Joslynn public speaking skills, money making opportunities, life lessons and how to have a good time. Her favorite high school memory is winning barnwarming queen. The class that she enjoyed the most is Ag. Communications because you learn many new life skills and work on resumes, cover letters, write formal messages and much more. This class also works on public speaking skills, all of the things we have learned in that class can and will be used later on in life. Outside of school, Joslynn enjoys hanging out with friends and family, going on trips, church and community activities as well as riding horses. If she had one wish it would be to be a successful person in life that others can look to for advice and encouragement. After High School, Joslynn plans to attend State Technical College of Missouri and will be going into the Agribusiness program. Afterwards will be going into the Agribusiness field. The person she admires the most is her Nana (Angie Mefford) because she is always willing to help anyone and has always been one of my number one supporters. She is always willing to go on new adventures and the numerous shopping trips. Joslynn admires her because, she is always balancing so many titles and tasks and makes it look like a piece of cake. The teacher that had the most influence on Joslynn is Mrs. Kaytlyn Mefford because she has always been very supportive, willing to help and is one of the strongest people Joslynn know. "When am having a bad day or need advice, she is always there! I have thoroughly enjoyed having my aunt as a teacher, and will miss that after graduation." The one thing that Joslynn will miss most about South Shelby High School is being around all of her friends that she has gone to school with for so long.

Senior Spotlight: Daxton Durbin Daxton Joseph Durbin, will be a 2023 graduate of South Shelby High School, is the son of Dale and Amanda Durbin. He is the brother of Dalton and Dylan Durbin. His favorite activity to do with your family is visiting Arrowhead Stadium to watch the Chiefs play. The activities that Daxton is involved in are South Shelby High School Football, Golf, and St. Mary’s Catholic church. The activity that he enjoys the most is golf because it’s an easy way to unwind and the course is very peaceful and calming. Daxton's favorite high school memory is when our girls basketball team went to state last year. Daxton and a bunch of friends traveled there by ourselves and did whatever we wanted. The class that he enjoys the most is foods because he loves to cook and think it’s very interesting how you can throw a bunch of ingredients together and make something taste good. Outside of school Daxton enjoys spending time with friends and watching TV. If he had one wish it would be to have an unlimited amount of money. After High School, Daxton plans toattend Missouri Western State University and earn a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. The person he admires the most is his grandma becauseshe is the nicest and most selfless person he has ever met and always puts her children and grandchildren first. The one thing Daxton will miss most about South Shelby High School is playing sports and the community.

Congrats to the archery teams great shooting. The Middle School team scored 3156 with a 2nd ranking and High School team scored 3003 with a 2nd ranking. Bree Gill shot a STATE qualifying score of 291, Gabe Bowen a 280, and Jace McWilliams 279.

Congratulations to the South Shelby Middle School Scholar Bowl teams competing today at the North Shelby Tournament! Both teams performed well this morning, and advanced to the final rounds this afternoon. Our teams met in the Consolation Final Match, as we placed 5th and 6th!

Senior Spotlight: Summer Hunolt Summer Nicole Hunolt, will be a 2023 graduate of South Shelby High School, is the daughter of Billy and Tiffany Hunolt. She is the sister of Jordyn Hunot. Her favorite childhood memory is playing carpet ball at church camp. Summer is involved in Softball, Basketball, Clarence Methodist Church, National Honor Society, FCCLA, and Environmental Club. The activity that she enjoy the most is softball because the team has always felt like a family and she's always enjoyed playing the sport. Summer will miss singing Mamma Mia and Christmas songs during the middle of the season when it’s 90 degrees outside. Her favorite high school memory is when making the game winning throw at our last home softball game. The class that she enjoyed the most is biology because the class was interesting but also had so many laughs with the people in it and had so many jokes from that class. Outside of school she enjoy hanging out with your friends and family, going to Sonic, sewing, baking, and doing anything active. If she had one wish it would be to be able to go to Sonic everyday. After High School, Summer plans to attend Northwest Missouri State University and earn a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary education. The person she admires the most is her father because he is a great role model of a hard working person and I always look to him for advice. He’s always there for her and has helped her become the person she is today. She is forever grateful for all the time he has put into coming to watch me play sports and receive academic awards. The teacher that had the most influence on here is Mrs. Steveson because she is always there to help me in most of my classes but she is also there to listen to me when I need real world advice and was a true inspiration to becoming a teacher. The one thing she will most about South Shelby High School is playing sports with all of my friends and seeing them everyday.

Senior Spotlight: Amiliya Sizemore Amillya Joleen Sizemore, will be a 2023 graduate of South Shelby High School, and is the daughter Jessica and Brian Benson , She is the sister of Kate, Hailey, Holley Sizemore and Preston Benson Her favorite activity to do with your family is going camping. She is involved in Varsity cheer, FCCLA, FCA, NHS, NYI President at her church, Environmental club, Musical, Marching band and Choir. The activity that she enjoys the most is Marching band and the musical because performing is a big part of who she is and the people who made it a great experience. Amiliya's favorite high school memory is when she played Beth in Little Women, it was her favorite role and taught her a lot about acting. The class that you enjoyed the most is Choir because it helped her grow and got her out of my comfort zone. Outside of school she enjoys working with my church, spending time with her sister, playing with her nephew, and reading. If she had one wish it would be that everyone knew Jesus. After High School, Amillya plans to attend MidAmerica Nazarene University and major in Sociology and intercultural studies. The person she admires the most is her Mom because she taught her how to be strong and that if you want to achieve something you go after it. That you don’t let people decide who you are going to be that’s something you decided all on your own. The teacher that had the most influence on her is Mr. McCoy because he taught her how to get out of my box and to break the walls others have built around her. He helped her get over her insecurities when it comes to music. The one thing she will miss most about South Shelby High School is being involved in the music program.

Congratulations to the South Shelby Varsity Scholar Bowl Team on their win over Monroe City 400-160. They remain undefeated in CCC play. They play Brookfield next Thursday at home at 4:30.
