This morning we have a new staff member to help us through the holidays, Wade. He tried his hand at helping out in the High School Office. He did not do well but good thing we have Kim and Kim who do an amazing job keeping this place running every day!

Dog sled racing season is about to begin in December. This will lead to The Last Great Race on Earth, the Iditarod. Today, this event was introduced to 8th grade English students and future research ideas were discussed, following a short video of the Great Serum Run of 1925. Here, Reid Schwada shared his Alaskan experience with Room 148. One of the highlights of Reid's adventures was visiting the kennel of Susan Butcher (1954-2006) near Fairbanks. Susan was a 4 time Iditarod champion as well as the first person to drive a sled dog team to the top of Denali. Her motto...I don't know the word 'quit'. Reid also visited the official Iditarod Headquarters as well as many other Alaskan attractions. He talked about native foods and other cultural differences. What a great lesson Reid taught his peers!
